Schlüchtern – The city of Schlüchtern has announced the renovation of Obertorstrasse in the city center. Construction work is expected to begin shortly and on time for the opening of the New Obertor at the end of May be completed.
The focus of the work is exclusively on the road; the sidewalks remain untouched. The road will receive a new surface, but no major renovation is planned. The city is also planning surveys to calm traffic.
Obertorstraße in Schlüchtern will be renovated by the end of May
The renovation area extends from the former VR Bank building to the Sparkasse and includes the intersection areas with Bahnhofstrasse as well as Linsengasse and Schmiedsgasse. “We always take the intersections into account so that we can build on them later when the other streets are being renovated,” explained Jan Knüttel, head of the Schlüchtern building authority.
The city pays particular attention to the intersection with Grabenstrasse directly in front of the New Obertor. “This area should be completely paved with natural stone so that the entrance to the New Upper Gate has a beautiful square feel,” says Knüttel.
The scheduled completion date is May 27th. The opening ceremony for the New Obertor is scheduled to take place one day later, on Thursday, May 28th. “We are confident that we will succeed,” said the building authority manager.
