Traffic controls in Schlüchtern and Steinau: Suspicion of drugs and seatbelt violations are the focus. A driver provides a sweet highlight.

Schlüchtern/Steinau – It is a fixed ritual at the Schlüchtern police station: the officers turn a week in the spring into a special inspection week. Since Sunday, they have been out and about in the region again, for example to detect speeding violations or to find seatbelt wearers.

On Monday (April 13th) around a dozen colleagues from the station were on Lotichiusstrasse specifically to check the driving ability of vehicle drivers. In the morning, the emergency services set up their checkpoint on Schlüchtern's Hanauer Strasse.

In a large parking lot, they selectively waved vehicles out of the moving traffic. Within three hours there were more than 70 cars. Six drivers were caught not wearing a seatbelt. A road user who did not secure a child traveling with him was also asked to pay.

The officers looked particularly closely at the driving ability of the people behind the wheel. At that hour in the morning, however, the consumption of drugs was less of an issue. If there is any suspicion, special checks are carried out on road users outside their vehicle. For example, excessive excitement or “shaky” behavior are suspicious here.

In such a case, the reaction of the pupils is examined more closely or the balance is checked. If these and other tests are abnormal, a urine sample is required on the spot, which is then examined using special test strips. Exactly the opposite of a corona test, it is noticeable if no display is visible.

There were a total of 18 preliminary tests on Monday morning. This was positive in a 41-year-old. During the police control operation, a specially trained officer was also part of the team who looked closely. In technical jargon, his qualification is called “DIS” – drug detection in traffic.

Then the logical consequence is: drive the patrol car to the police station, where a doctor takes blood so that it can be examined which drugs are in the body. At the same time, this means that investigations are started on suspicion of drugs in traffic. The car must first stop.

Checkpoint also in Steinau at the train station

In the afternoon, the emergency services moved their checkpoint to Steinau. There, cars were selectively waved out into the parking lot at the train station. A 39-year-old is quickly suspected of drug use, and another driver is also initially suspected.

He is asked to take a urine test. But despite waiting patiently, nothing happens for a long time. Is it the excitement? In any case, the sample cup remains empty. There is a replacement solution for this: drug consumption can also be checked using a saliva test. The result: negative. Later, a 27-year-old woman was noticed in Steinau and also had to give blood.

At Steinau train station, 25 vehicles were stopped and 28 passengers were checked. Five had to pay for seat belt violations. But there was also something positive: a driver voluntarily drove his car into the checkpoint. There he gave the officers a pack of gummy bears as a thank you for their service.

A few days before Meanwhile, a 63-year-old cyclist in the Bavarian Rhön succumbed to serious injuries after a fall. According to the police, the cause of the serious accident on a cycle path along the B286 federal highway near Bad Kissingen was a collision with a wild animal.
