Fulda – A colorful spectacle awaits visitors to Hessentag on Saturday, June 20th: The St. Antonius Foundation invites you to the second edition of the big Fulda duck race. Behind the fun action for Hesse day There is a serious background, as Antonius explains. The proceeds from the fundraising campaign go to the foundation project “together: grow”. According to the announcement, the goal is to build a new organic vegetable garden in Haimbach. Jobs will be created there for people with a high level of assistance needs. The 2023 race raised 25,000 euros for a new greenhouse.

An example of the success of such concepts is Lukas Nikolaus Dietz. The 20-year-old found clarity and structure in working in nature to develop his full potential. Dr. Wolfram Geiger, Chairman of the St. Antonius Foundation, emphasizes: “Every little duck brings us one step closer to enabling people with disabilities to have a self-determined working life.”

Anyone interested can now sponsor the yellow plastic animals for a donation of five euros. The racing tickets are available in the Hofcafé, Antonius Laden, in the Antonius LadenCafé or from April 18th at the plant and vegetable market. The sponsors do not necessarily have to be there on race day to win. Attractive prizes await the owners of the 25 fastest ducks – including an e-bike as the main prize.

In addition to the main run, there is a separate race for companies and clubs. For an entry fee of 500 euros, extra-large giant ducks, which can be creatively designed in advance, can be entered. The winning team will enjoy an exclusive after-work event in an Antonius restaurant of their choice, including musical accompaniment from a DJ team from the foundation.

The lighthouse project “growing together” has been the St. Antonius Foundation’s current project since 2021 to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities. It is the ninth project in the last 25 years and is largely financed through civic engagement, including through fundraising campaigns such as the Fulda Duck Race.

The event begins on June 20th at 2 p.m. with the welcoming of guests on the banks of the Fulda. The official starting signal for the race will be given at 3 p.m. at the Hornungsbrücke. A colorful supporting program with food and various hands-on activities as part of the Hessentag awaits families along the 750 meter long race track.
