Attempted murder out of greed?
When her husband wanted a divorce, a 27-year-old woman from Lower Saxony is said to have planned to kill him. According to the prosecution, she wanted to get the term life insurance! Her partner survives the acid attack but becomes completely blind. Now the trial begins – and the defendant testifies herself!
She is said to have attacked her husband in the basement
The acid attack occurred on November 7, 2025. According to investigators, the 27-year-old lured her husband under a pretext into the basement of the house in Schladen (Lower Saxony), where their two children also lived. According to the indictment, the defendant asked him to repair a child seat in the basement workroom. She is said to have poured the formic acid over her defenseless victim's head and face from behind! The man escapes to the house, where a neighbor provides first aid and calls the emergency number.

Young woman speaks in court about an accident
The defendant testified in court on Thursday (April 9) – and painted a completely different picture of the crime. “He wanted to go down to the basement and repair the child seat,” explains the mother of two in court in Braunschweig. “He couldn’t manage to repair the child seat,” she continues. Her husband then used the acid to loosen a button on the seat. The defendant explains that they had the acid at home for cleaning.
Then the situation came to a head and, according to her statement, resulted in an argument: “He wanted to throw the acid on me, I resisted – and then it was too late.” According to the defendant, the attack was an accident; he wanted to attack her and she defended herself. She gets acid herself. The young woman said in court that she then rinsed her eyes and face, looked after the children and called the emergency number.

Partner is in an induced coma for days
The husband suffers massive burns, including to his eyes, neck and arms. The acid burns the cornea on both eyes, causing him to become completely blind. Due to the severity of the injuries and the considerable pain, the victim had to be placed in an artificial coma for several days. The public prosecutor accuses the woman of knowing the possible consequences because she had informed herself in advance.

The verdict could come in May
According to the indictment, the husband is said to have informed his partner of his desire for a divorce a few days before the attack. The young woman testifies in court that she was not happy in the relationship and that her husband put pressure on her and persuaded her to have sexual intercourse: “I was happy when the relationship was over,” the 27-year-old said in court.
But according to the public prosecutor, the defendant decided to kill her husband in order to get 400,000 euros from a term life insurance policy. The prosecutors accuse the 27-year-old from the Wolfenbüttel district of, among other things, attempted murder out of treachery and greed. She rejects that too: “I’ve always done well with the money.” Seven days of negotiations are planned for the trial until May 8th.
