North and Baltic Seas in the big price checkPrice shock on vacation? That's how much the beach chair really costs now!
In Scharbeutz, beach chair prices remain at the same level as last year.

On the coasts of northern Germany, the sun is a must in summer. If you don't want to expose yourself to it without protection, you can often relax in beach chairs. This doesn’t necessarily cost holidaymakers more than it will in 2025.
In many places, beach chair prices have not risen this year or have risen comparatively moderately. However, prices vary significantly depending on location and season. A beach chair costs between 10 and more than 20 euros a day, says the online platform Strandbutler.de, which currently works with more than 70 beach chair rental companies on the North and Baltic Seas in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
“It really depends on the region and the beach,” said the platform’s managing director, Bernhard Sourdeau. “The beaches on the Baltic Sea are, on average, more expensive than the beaches on the North Sea.” The prices are stable to moderately increasing.
On Sylt, for example, the prices vary depending on the season, beach section and rental period, as a spokeswoman for Sylt Marketing said. In Hörnum as well as in Westerland and Rantum, guests will not have to pay more this year than 2025. A beach chair costs 17 euros on the central beach of Westerland or in Rantum in high season. Anyone who books multiple days will receive a discount. Afternoon baskets are also cheaper at 10 euros. In Wennigstedt the price for a day basket increases from 12 to 15 euros and in Kampen on beach sections A and N (dog beaches) from 16 to 17 euros. In List you now have to pay 31 instead of 27 euros for a three-day basket.
The first beach chairs were set up in St. Peter-Ording a few weeks ago. These could be used free of charge until the end of March. Rental started in April and costs 12 euros per day from May to September. In April and October 10 euros must be paid.
In Büsum, holidaymakers can use a beach chair for 13 euros per day, as Mayor Oliver Kumbartzky said. For a weekly rental (seven days or more) the daily price is reduced to 11 euros. Compared to the 2025 season, this is an increase of 2 euros. The price adjustment is justified by general cost increases.
In Wyk auf Föhr, the beach chair rental is 13 euros per day and 73 euros for a week, as a spokeswoman for Föhr Tourism said. That corresponds to an increase of around 10 percent. The reason given here was a general increase in prices, among other things, in the areas of wages and vehicle maintenance. In Nieblum the prices have remained the same at 10 euros per day and 46 euros per week. In Utersum, beach chair rents have also remained the same at 10 euros per day and 56 euros per week.
Beach chair prices in the Bay of Lübeck between Rettin and Scharbeutz are between 10 and 20 euros per day, as a spokesman for the local tourism agency said. The average daily price for a beach chair is 15.10 euros. A beach chair costs between 60 and 95 euros per week. The prices are unchanged from the 2025 summer season.
For the landlords who are organized in the Schleswig-Holstein State Association of Beach Chair Renters, the prices vary between 12 euros and around 18 euros per day. “Depending on the place and situation,” said the association’s chairman, Marcus Bade. For example, there are also beach chair rental companies who vary their prices not only depending on the section of beach, but also depending on the proximity to the water. “But there are fewer of them,” said Bade.
The association mainly includes landlords in the areas of Lübeck Bay, Travemünde and Fehmarn. On the North Sea, the municipality usually takes over the rental.
