After the knife attack on a family in Witten near Bochum, the 38-year-old mother and nine-year-old daughter are now out of danger. The spokesman for the Bochum public prosecutor's office, Jan Finke, told the German Press Agency. Both are still receiving intensive care in hospital but are stable, it said.
Father attacks family after argument
The father of the family is considered a suspect. He is said to have seriously injured the mother, daughter and 13-year-old son with a knife on Saturday during an argument. The boy died shortly afterwards. The 40-year-old man was arrested. As dpa learned from security circles, he was also treated in hospital before being taken into police custody.

The motive remains unclear. The police are currently not providing any further information about the background to the crime. According to police, the suspect has not yet attracted any attention. A homicide squad is investigating a homicide. The Bochum public prosecutor's office is leading the investigation.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the 40-year-old will be brought before a judge later this afternoon. An exact time was not given. The judge decides whether the father should be remanded in custody. Based on the events, this can be assumed, it was said.

The city of Witten was seriously affected by the incident. “The news of this terrible act shocks us all deeply. We are particularly shocked by the death of a child,” said Mayor Dirk Leistner, according to the statement.
