Holger Marx (CDU) wins mayoral runoff election in Lauterbach
With 49.94 percent of the votes, he was well ahead of Daniel Schmidt, who came in second with 34.03 percent of the votes. Nevertheless, there was now a runoff election between the CDU man and the Green Party member Schmidt, who, however, entered the race as a non-party candidate.
Marx won this second round of voting on Sunday (March 29) relatively clearly: with 59.92 percent of the votes, he beat Schmidt (40.08 percent). 56.33 percent of those eligible to vote in the Vogelsberg district town cast their vote. Marx received 3,438 of these votes and 2,300 went to Schmidt.
On August 1st, Marx will inherit the veteran mayor Rainer-Hans Vollmöller, who led the city's fortunes for 30 years. Vollmöller announced last year that he would be resigning from his position early for health reasons.
