Telephone fraudsters steal money from a senior citizen from Lauterbach. The police speak of a “particularly bold scam” with which tricksters repeatedly contacted citizens in the Vogelsberg district.

Lauterbach – On Wednesday (March 24th), several people from the Vogelsberg district received calls from unknown people who pretended to be bank employees, according to the East Hesse police headquarters Fulda. The perpetrators, who posed as Sparkasse employees, conducted clever conversations. A 75-year-old woman from Lauterbach fell for the scam.

The senior citizen handed over her bank card to a person who showed up at her home shortly after the call. Only later did she realize that she had been scammed because the perpetrators had withdrawn cash from her account. The police describe the person who picked up the car as male, with dark skin, around 20 to 30 years old and around 1.65 to 1.70 meters tall.

Witnesses who observed suspicious people or vehicles in Lauterbach on Friday or who have information about the incident are asked to contact the police on (06641) 9710 or any other police station. Alternatively, you can also use the online watch at polizei.hessen.de to use.

The police generally advise caution if someone pretends to be a bank employee on the phone or at the front door who cannot be clearly identified. “Hang up immediately as soon as the person you are talking to demands money, valuables, PINs, TANs or transfers from you,” warn the officials.

In addition, you should “never pass on confidential banking information by telephone or message.” If in doubt, it is recommended to contact the known bank employee on the familiar telephone number or the police on 110. The redial button should be avoided.

“Re-dial the phone number you know. Don't be fooled by the phone numbers displayed. Through so-called call ID spoofing, fraudsters can display any phone number – including your bank's – on the phone display.” Victims of such fraud or anyone who has received such a call should contact their bank immediately.

You should also file a report with the police. However Fraudsters in the Fulda district recently posed as employees of the local court and demanded money. And In Bad Soden-Salmünster, fraudsters – fake mail order companies – recently took away a pensioner's debit card using a perfidious trick.
