This dance goes straight to the heart.
In show 2 of “Let's Dance” Willi Banner and professional dancer Patricija Ionel dare to do something that is usually only seen later in the season – a contemporary. But for Willi there is a very personal story behind the emotional dance. How is the performance received by the jury? You can see that in the video above.
Showing a contemporary so early in the season is actually unusual. But Willy Banner and Patricia Ionel accept this challenge – and allow for many feelings. The professional dancer wants to open up her celebrity partner on the dance floor and help him show emotions. And that's exactly what works.
For Willi, the dance is a journey into his past. During rehearsals he talks about his father. The two of them used to have a connection primarily through sport: Willi was involved in competitive cycling and even trained under his father. But over time the relationship between them changes and Willi ultimately decides to go to boarding school. Shortly afterwards his father becomes seriously ill. While he was bedridden, he repeatedly picked up the phone and called his son – sometimes even several times a day. But then suddenly it becomes quiet. “At some point it stopped ringing,” remembers Willi. His father dies. A story that gets under your skin and moves Willi to tears.
With his contemporary on the “Let’s Dance” stage, the content creator is dancing exactly for him today – and is showing a side of himself that many viewers have never seen before.
The emotional performance did not go unnoticed by the jury. In the end, Willi Banner and Patricija Ionel received 17 points for their contemporary – and a lot of praise for the intensity of their dance. A performance that shows: Sometimes “Let's Dance” is not just about steps and technique, but about real feelings. And Papa Banner probably would have been pretty proud of that moment.
