Due to increased costs and a lack of guests, the Copa discotheque in Mittelkalbach is closing at the end of April. On Thursday, April 30th, the club will open its doors for the last time.
Kalbach – For years, the Copa in Mittelkalbach was a fixture for young and older people from Kalbach and the surrounding area. Four years ago, two young men tried to breathe new life into the former discotheque. But it is now clear that the doors will open one last time on April 30th due to increased costs and fewer guests wanting to party.
The operators Leon Günther and Yannick Born reopened the Copa in October 2022 after several months of renovation. The Copa had closed its doors around 20 years earlier. During this time, instead of the regular discotheque operations, private events only took place irregularly. With the reopening, the old stories of the once well-known disco should be revived and new ones written.

Under the motto “Well-known location, new concept”, Günther and Born tried to have something suitable for every taste in the program. Your heart project should be a place full of music, encounters and unforgettable nights. “The first two years went well,” reports Günther. But due to increased costs and a “changed behavior of the younger generation”, the Copa will open its doors for the last time on April 30th. Günther reports: “We relied on the fact that after Corona, people would even want to go out and party.”
Ultimately, however, a lack of visitor numbers and excessive spending led to its closure. The operators also addressed their guests on social media: “Difficult times require difficult decisions”. For years, the Copa was a place where you could briefly forget about everyday life – a place to laugh, dance, celebrate and create memories. The operators therefore want to “consciously experience the time until the closure together” and say goodbye with a “Thank you for everything”.
Before Günther and Born say goodbye, they want to “turn things up completely again” over the past few months. They want to appeal to a broad audience again with various events. From techno to hits and from live bands to hardstyle, everything should be there. Günther also reports that the lease has been terminated. What will happen next with the old Copa after April is still unclear. What is certain, however, is that the last major event will take place on April 30th before the Copa chapter finally closes. In Fulda, however, only a new club was opened: The “Base” brings nightlife under the Block Barock bouldering hall.
