For the first time, visitors to the Hessentag experience ecumenical cooperation. The churches offer multimedia productions. They show the story of the Good Samaritan, brought to today.
Fulda – For the first time, the churches will be ecumenical at the Hessentag in Fulda. They will play at four locations on the Hessentag grounds. In the next ten days, the city parish church will become the Hessentag Church under the motto “Heart Center”.
The Hessentag Church in the city parish church was officially opened on Friday at 6 p.m. The church was well attended. Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) campaigned for the motto “One in the heart” to be not only a church motto, but also a social one beyond the Hessentag.
Churches present multimedia experiences at Hessentag in Fulda
When the parish church in Fulda was chosen as the Hessentag Church, the Catholic and Protestant churches announced their multimedia center there Hesse day to. The Evangelical Regional Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW) and the diocese of Fulda showed what lies behind it.
As the “heart center,” the Hessentagskirche is the central, ecumenical contact point for the Catholic and Protestant churches. Every hour on the hour, the EKKW and the diocese, which cooperate with the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) as well as the Diakonie Hessen and the Caritas Association for the Diocese of Fulda, show a multimedia production in the church on the Hessentag.
When video and lighting effects fill the nave, they also do so with a heart motif. Finally, the churches have adopted the motto “One in heart” with which they want to express their ecumenical solidarity and that should be filled with life beyond Hessentag. Information is available online at www.im-herzen-eins.info.
In the productions, the churches take up biblical themes and, true to their slogan, speak of “heart stories”. Behind “Queen of Hearts” is a current adaptation of the story of the Good Samaritan, which actress Debora Ochoa has now brought to the stage in front of the chancel. She slips into the role of a woman who has been attacked – whether between Jerusalem and Jericho, Bad Hersfeld and Fulda, in Frankfurt or in Offenbach.

As in the biblical parable, she initially receives no help, neither from a businesswoman on the way to the next appointment nor from the mother with a stroller. Only the seemingly superficial influencer takes care of the injured person. Ochoa's play with monitors, a heart-shaped balloon and music, designed by the Frankfurt artist Parviz Mir-Ali, ultimately culminates in the motto song “Im Herzen eins”. There is also a video installation entitled “King of Hearts”.
In addition to the two productions, organ music is played in the parish church every day at 1:15 p.m. and trombone serenades at 5:15 p.m. At the end there will be an “Impulse to the Night” at 10:15 p.m. In addition to the city parish church, the churches are represented in the Severikirche (“Herzzeit”) on the sky stage (“Herzklang”) in the Fulda floodplains and with the blessing gondola (“Herzblick”) in the Ferris wheel.
