Gelnhausen – On Monday afternoon (June 8th), a 44-year-old's escape from a police checkpoint in Gelnhausen ended with a blood sample, the seizure of his motorcycle and criminal proceedings on several allegations. Among other things, he is being investigated on suspicion of being a road traffic hazard.
As the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters in Offenbach announced, the man was noticed by a police patrol on Birsteiner Strasse around 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon when he came towards them on his motorcycle without a license plate. The officers turned around and gave chase to stop the Gründauer.
Chase in Gelnhausen: Motorcyclist flees from police
At first he ignored a red light and the patrol car's stop signs, which reinforced the suspicion that he was trying to avoid being checked. He then accelerated his motorcycle and turned onto Leipziger Allee. During the pursuit he also drove long distances on the sidewalk.
A woman in a doorway apparently had to back away to avoid colliding with him. As the 44-year-old turned onto a dirt road, a parked car forced him to brake. The owner of the vehicle, who was outside his car, noticed the pursuit and detained the 44-year-old, who, however, dropped his motorcycle and fled on foot.
A few meters later he was caught by the police and arrested. The man's escape probably had several reasons. “He was obviously under the influence of drugs,” said police spokesman Thomas Leipold. In addition, he is said not to have had a valid driving license. According to initial findings, there was also no liability insurance for his motorcycle.
The police are now asking for further information. Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the police station in Gelnhausen on (06051) 8270. The previously unknown woman who backed away from the motorcycle is also asked to come forward.
Meanwhile A few days earlier, a fair tent in Lautertal im Vogelsberg became the scene of arguments and bodily harm. Two young men kicked a third man. In this case, too, the police are asking for relevant information from witnesses.
