A German holidaymaker gets into trouble while swimming in a popular bathing bay on Mallorca. Bathers pull the 73-year-old out of the water, rescue workers fight for his life. The man dies of cardiac arrest while more and more curious people flock around him.
Bathers notice distress in the water
The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon (June 1st) at around 1:25 p.m. in Cala de ses Llises near Peguera in the southwest of Mallorca. The small bathing bay is close to the popular Cala Fornells and regularly attracts holidaymakers. Several people watch as the 73-year-old suddenly gets into trouble in the water. With presence of mind, the bathers act immediately, pull the man out of the sea and raise the alarm. The lifeguards from Palmira beach, almost a kilometer away, rush to the scene of the accident.
Paramedics fought for the German for more than an hour
When the rescue workers arrive, the situation is already dramatic. The senior is no longer breathing and his heart has stopped beating. The paramedics immediately begin resuscitation measures. Shortly afterwards, four ambulances, local police officers, the Civil Guard and civil defense volunteers arrive.
