50 chimney sweeps cycle through Germany for children with cancer and make their first stop in Hünfeld. 30,000 euros were handed over.

Hünfeld – The “Happiness Tour” of the German chimney sweep trade has on its almost 1000 kilometer long bike tour through Germany for the first time also stopping in Hünfeld made. The 50 chimney sweeps want to use their tour to raise funds for children with cancer – in the past few years a total of eight million euros have been raised.

On their 21st tour through Germany, the cyclists started on Whit Tuesday in Braunschweig and cycled to Straubing. In the respective milestones, the donation proceeds are passed on directly to regional initiatives, affected families, associations and clinics.

On Thursday (May 28th) the cycling chimney sweeps reached Hünfeld. On the terrace of the Boniface Monastery, around 30,000 euros were handed over to various institutions and associations in large groups. It became emotional because the representatives of the institutions and associations talked about their work and the difficulties that the families of seriously ill children often face. According to the initiators of the happiness tour, the money could make everyday life for the families a little easier.

The city of Hünfeld also supported the lucky tour: Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU), together with the municipal utilities, handed over a donation check for 1,500 euros. “We warmly welcome you here in Hünfeld. What you are doing is great,” said Tschesnok.

On Thursday evening, all participants of the lucky tour had dinner together in the Aha restaurant. The Hünfeld men's choir spontaneously even sang a serenade to the chimney sweeps there. The feedback from the cycling lucky charms was consistently positive: “We felt very comfortable here in Hünfeld, everything was well organized and everyone is very welcoming here.”

Supported institutions and associations

The Hünfelder Sorgenkinder campaign, the children and youth hospice “Little Heroes” East Hesse, the children's cancer aid Schlitz, the self-help group Herzkinder Fulda, the Känguruh association, the Malteser relief service with its children's hospice service, the parents' association for children with leukemia and cancer in Giessen, the parents' initiative for children with leukemia and tumors in Marburg and the outpatient children's and youth hospice service each received 3,000 euros Marburg.

Before the tour continued to Bad Neustadt on Friday, the lucky cyclists made a short stop in front of the Hünfeld town hall. In addition to Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok and City Councilor Karin Grosch, the participants were also welcomed by State Parliament member Thomas Hering and CDU parliamentary group leader Ines Claus.

“I’m very touched by what you’re doing,” said Ines Claus. Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok reiterated his words from the evening before: “It’s really great what you’re doing.”
