Couples can get married spontaneously on June 26th in the Christ Church in Fulda. However, there are clear requirements for a marriage that is valid under canon law.

Fulda – Get married in church without much planning effort or have your own love blessed: The Evangelical Christ Church offers this offer to couples from the region as part of the #simplymarry campaign. Last year, eleven couples celebrated their spontaneous wedding, and 35 other couples had their relationship blessed.

On Friday, June 26th, the Christ Church in Fulda will open its doors for uncomplicated wedding ceremonies and blessing celebrations from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is part of a nationwide initiative by the Protestant Church, as the Fulda church district reports. This is particularly aimed at couples for whom a classic wedding celebration is too elaborate or too expensive, but who still want to place their relationship under God's blessing.

“Blessings are good for a relationship in every phase,” emphasizes the team of volunteers and full-time employees who are preparing the campaign. The evening is organized by Pastor Jana Koch-Zeißig. “This year our team will once again ensure a special atmosphere in the church and in the garden next to the church. There is a lot of love in the air,” she says.

According to the organizer, the romantic setting is provided: music, photos, cocktails and a festive atmosphere await the couples. The weddings and blessing ceremonies take place at several lovingly designed stations in the church and in the church garden. Nine pastors from the Fulda church district are available for discussions and the ceremonies, including Marvin Lange, Jana Koch-Zeißig, Lea-Katharina Müller, Julia Kaiser, Klaus Dieter Inerle and Stefan Bürger.

The process is deliberately kept low-threshold: couples are welcomed, a priest takes time for a personal conversation. The couples can then choose a love verse and choose a favorite song from a playlist to be played live. Anyone interested can come by spontaneously and without documents for a blessing – for example for an engagement, an anniversary or “just because”.

According to the Christ Church, anyone who wants to have a valid wedding according to canon law needs the civil marriage certificate and identity cards. The prerequisite is that the civil marriage has already been concluded and at least one partner belongs to the Protestant church.
