When Hessentag is celebrated this year, the focus should not only be on the region, but also on what defines it: a feeling of home, regionality and products directly from the surrounding area.

Fulda – That’s exactly what’s behind the official one Hessentag drink “A sip of home apple”, which Heimatliebe developed together with the Schlitzer distillery. “We sat down last autumn and created this idea,” report Schlitzer distillery managing director Tobias Wiedelbach and Haldun Tuncay, managing director of the Parzeller media group, who have been working together very successfully for years.”

It quickly became clear that we were going to… Hesse day wanted to get something going together again. “We wanted to create something again that really fits the region and that people can identify with.”

Wiedelbach therefore describes the local apple as a genuine regional product. “We create something from raw materials that are right on our doorstep,” he emphasizes. That's why the apples used come from the Rhön and the Vogelsberg – i.e. from regions that many people in East Hesse directly associate with home. Wiedelbach explains the idea behind it: “To create a product that not only has home in the name, but also makes it noticeable in every sip.”

It wasn't just about developing any spirit. Rather, they wanted to create a drink that would appeal to as many people as possible. The local apple should not be a niche product, but should be enjoyed by as many as possible – whether die-hard apple lovers or visitors who simply want to try something typical from the region at Hessentag. It is the combination of regional fruit and a pleasantly mild taste that makes the drink special.

“Heimatapfel” should be a drink for everyone – regional and delicious

The Hessentag is the right stage for this. After all, people from all over the world meet there Hesse together – many of them looking for regional products and special specialties. “The Hessentag thrives on community and regional identity,” says Wiedelbach. “The local apple goes perfectly with it.”

The connection to nature and local orchards is particularly important to both partners. These shape the landscape in East Hesse in many places and are at the same time an important part of regional traditions. “Production is secured for the time being,” jokes the managing director. “There is still enough fruit available at the moment,” he explains. “But especially from the harvest time onwards, we are of course grateful when we receive additional fruit from regional orchards.”

“A sip of Heimatapfel” is available in the Parzeller media group’s Heimatliebe shops and in selected spirits stores.
