“Let's Dance” juror visits the children's cancer wardWhen he can give children a smile, Jorge González's heart warms
“I just want them to have fun in this moment.”
Make children laugh. That is exactly Jorge González's mission when he visits the children's cancer ward at the Hamburg University Hospital. It's not an easy walk, because many little patients are unwell. But the “Let’s Dance” juror has been coming here again and again for years. Because he knows what a little distraction can mean in a moment like this. We accompanied the 58-year-old as part of the RTL initiative “Diversity Connects”, as you can see in the video above.
Jorge González wants to make everyday hospital life easier for children
Lynn is seven years old. She has a tumor in her eye and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Everyday life in the hospital is hard for the little one. As Jorge Gonzalez visits her in the hospital, his mission is crystal clear: create a distraction. Letting Lynn forget everything for a few moments. “I love children, I like playing with children and that is very important”says Jorge. For the 58-year-old, this means completely immersing himself in the world of little patients. Play, laugh, joke around. “I just want them to have fun in this moment.”

The 58-year-old has been committed to the “Crack the Cancer” initiative for years. It is an absolute passion project for the “Let’s Dance” juror. He knows how urgently children's cancer organizations need donations. Because the money makes offers possible that change everyday hospital life for the children. Music therapy, for example. Or computers and laptops that allow children to continue attending classes during their treatment. When he sees on site what is being created thanks to his donations, among other things, he always knows why this project is so close to his heart.

This story always gives Jorge strength
As much joy as Jorge wants to give during his visits, some encounters are also difficult. Not every child he has met over the years has won the battle against cancer. Nevertheless, there are stories that give him strength. One of them is about a girl from Kyiv. Jorge met her when she was eight or nine years old. She had several surgeries, had to endure an amputation and fought her way back to life. Today she is a doctor. “Such beautiful results, things like that give me the strength to come here,” says Jorge.

On May 28, 2026, RTL Deutschland will be holding a theme day for the first time under the banner “Diversity connects” on the occasion of World Game Day in June.
