Egg egg egg! No one has AS many eggs as this suspected thief!
A 45-year-old is said to have stolen 187,000 eggs from a laying hen farm in Dinklage in Lower Saxony. He entered the courtroom in Vechta on Tuesday (May 26th) with his head bowed and a briefcase in front of his face. How did the man get his big booty? His trick is shockingly simple! Every week he stole almost 1,500 eggs – until everything was discovered!
Theft method amazes the court
The man from Lower Saxony is charged on suspicion of commercial fraud, explains district court spokesman Tobias Vogt in an RTL interview: “The defendant is accused of stealing eggs from a chicken coop.” The public prosecutor's office accuses the alleged thief from Dinklage of stealing eggs worth more than 35,000 euros from the laying hen farm over a period of two years. And with this clever idea: “The defendant is said to have gone to the foreman and told him that the boss agreed if he took packages of eggs with him.” And not just once, but every week. He is said to have regularly had eight packages containing 180 eggs each stolen in this way. 1,440 eggs per week! A logistical masterpiece and a clever fraud scheme with which the 45-year-old apparently wanted to earn money and may have earned it.

Mysterious: guessing about the whereabouts of the eggs
But one thing is a mystery: what happened to the 187,000 stolen eggs? There is currently no trace of its whereabouts. But one fact makes you listen up: The defendant is said to operate two food vending machines as a small business owner. It is still unclear whether he might have sold the eggs there or made money through other means. He himself has so far remained silent about the allegations.

Senior public prosecutor Carolin Castagna reveals in an RTL interview: “Where they ultimately went is not of primary interest for the fraud accusation against this man.” What seems quite interesting, however, is that no one discovered the suspected thief for over two years. Only when a vacation representative at the company is surprised does the man find out. “He also gave him eggs, but then informed his superiors. And they ultimately informed the police.”says court spokesman Tobias Vogt. The boss of the laying hen company then reported the 45-year-old.

Boss is said to know suspected thief personally
Particularly explosive: According to RTL information, the head of the company is said to know the defendant personally. It is unclear whether the two men may have even done business together.

The session in the courtroom in Vechta on Tuesday (May 26th) was abruptly interrupted for a so-called legal discussion. But the attempt to reach an agreement between the defense, the public prosecutor and the court brought no result. According to the defense attorney, the defendant still wants to clear things up. The trial will continue next Thursday (June 4th), when the boss of the laying hen company will also testify and the verdict will be handed down. We are curious to see what the court will come to in this egg dance.
