
Large contingent of rescue workers near Flieden: Two people were injured in a head-on collision between two cars on Monday morning. District road 96 was closed.
Lilac – Update from 4:31 p.m.: The police released details about the serious accident on District Road 96 in the afternoon. As the officials report, a 79-year-old Opel driver from the municipality of Neuhof was traveling from the direction of Rommerz towards Flieden when, for reasons that are still unclear, he collided with an oncoming Mercedes. Its driver, a 62-year-old, also comes from the municipality of Neuhof and drove the route towards Rommerz.
Cars collide near Flieden: two injured after head-on crash
Due to the force of the impact, both people were trapped in their vehicles and had to be freed by the fire department. According to the emergency services, the man and woman suffered serious injuries; they were taken to surrounding hospitals for further medical care. The police estimate the property damage at around 15,000 euros.
The public prosecutor's office commissioned an expert to clarify the exact course of the accident. For the duration of the rescue and investigation work, the K 96 remained completely closed in the area of the accident site for around four hours.

According to information from reporters on site, it was a head-on collision between a silver Mercedes B-Class and a dark Opel Zafira. Both vehicles sustained significant frontal damage to the driver's side area. The Mercedes came to a stop across the road with its rear wheels in the ditch. The Opel was also parked across the road, partly on the sidewalk along the county road.
According to reporters, a man was injured in the Opel and trapped in the vehicle. The fire department freed him from the car. According to initial information, the driver of the Mercedes may have suffered serious injuries.
A large contingent of rescue and emergency services were deployed on site. In addition to the fire department, the “Christoph 28” rescue helicopter, three ambulances and an emergency medical vehicle were present.
The K96 between Flieden and Rommerz was closed as a result of the accident. The police expect the closure to last until around 3:30 p.m. Since a patrol is currently still on site, there is currently no information about the people affected or how the accident happened. More details to follow.
