An action in the Fulda community garden of the AWO Südd district meeting brings people together. The meeting place should be further developed.

Fulda – On May 9th, residents and garden enthusiasts from Fulda's Südd district gathered to become active in the community garden of the AWO Südd district meeting. The aim was to further develop the garden as a meeting place by building new pallet furniture, implementing a raised bed and planting it.

Many people followed the call and worked actively in the garden on Frankfurter Strasse. It was hauled, screwed, sawed, planted and designed. “What was particularly impressive was how committed the women and children were to working and sparing no effort,” reported the Fulda district association of Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO).

Some participants dared to use a jigsaw for the first time, which they clearly enjoyed and encouraged them to take on new technical challenges. With the support of the AWO and urban development funding, progress was made in the garden. The raised bed found its new place and was planted.

New pallet furniture enriches it AWO community garden, which was awarded by the city of Fulda in 2023 as a place of residence. In addition, the area in the middle was cleared to make room for a new project: an open area that will in future invite you to sit and linger and will be used for activities, meetings or a shared picnic.

“The garden campaign showed how much can be achieved when people from the district come together and work together. The garden not only becomes more beautiful, but more and more a place of encounter, participation and community,” summed up the Fulda AWO.

The garden project is part of the AWO's FriDa project, which is co-financed by the European Union and aims to promote encounters, participation and community engagement in the district. Anyone who is interested in further shaping the garden is warmly invited: an open garden meeting takes place every third Tuesday of the month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The garden meeting is organized with the AWO district meeting and the Hafen Lutherkirche. According to AWO, anyone interested is welcome to come by, contribute ideas, lend a hand or simply get to know the garden. The next garden campaign is planned for June 20th. All interested parties are invited to attend.
