Just in time for Hesse Day, 54 new charging points are available in Fulda. The city is now one of the leaders in Hesse.

Fulda – Just in time before the start of the Hesse day The city of Fulda and RhönEnergie have significantly expanded the charging network for electric vehicles. 54 new charging points went into operation and Fulda is now one of the leading cities in Hesse in expanding the charging infrastructure, as RhönEnergie reports.

With the official commissioning of four charging points at the commuter parking lot at Ochsenwiese, Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU), city planning officer Daniel Schreiner (independent) and representatives of RhönEnergie completed the planned expansion phase. A total of 421 charging points are now available in Fulda. This puts the city in second place in terms of the number of residents per charging point in a comparison of the twelve largest cities in Hesse – only Rüsselsheim has a denser network.

Mathematically, only 169 residents in Fulda share a charging point. In the Opel town of Rüsselsheim there are 69 residents, followed by Wiesbaden with 231 and Kassel with 297 residents per charging point. At the other end of the scale are Offenbach, Darmstadt and Bad Homburg with a significantly lower density of charging points.

“We are pleased that we can continue to advance e-mobility together with the city of Fulda,” said Martin Heun, spokesman for the management of RhönEnergie. The new locations will create a modern and reliable charging infrastructure that can also be seen nationwide.

The demand for charging options is constantly growing. Every fourth newly registered vehicle is now an electric car. “Our goal is for the charging infrastructure to keep pace with growing demand,” explained Heun. RhönEnergie is setting up charging points not only in public spaces, but also in companies and private households. Almost two thirds of all charging points in the Fulda city area are operated by the energy supplier.

Mayor Wingenfeld emphasized the connection to the upcoming major event: “RhönEnergie and the city of Fulda are massively expanding the charging infrastructure in time for Hessentag. This is good news for everyone who comes to Fulda with an electric car.” City planning officer Schreiner added that the investment would be a benefit for the entire region.

The new charging points are spread across 14 locations. Most of them were built on Schillerstrasse near the clinic with eight charging points. Six charging points each were set up on Königstrasse and on Ronsbachstrasse in Kohlhäuser Feld. Other locations include the Dompfarrzentrum, the train station, the Hedwigstift in Horas, Frauenberg and Bonifatiusplatz. The stations can be used with all common charging cards.

Just recently E-mobility in the Rhön was also strengthened. RhönEnergie has opened six charging points at the Grabenhöfchen hiking car park.
