Schlüchtern – An additional “window of money” is coming from the country for them Comprehensive renovation of the Schlüchtern outdoor swimming pool in sight. Mayor Matthias Möller (independent) has now received a message from Wiesbaden that the major project should receive an additional, strong financial injection.
In a letter, the state of Hesse announced that it would provide almost one million euros in net funding. “The letter is still hot off the press,” says the city leader enthusiastically. In the years 2019 to 2023, necessary investments in Hessian outdoor and indoor swimming pools were funded with more than 50 million euros in state money in almost 200 cases via the swimming pool investment and modernization program (SWIM).

The aim of the program was to ensure that modern and sustainable swimming pools are available in Hesse so that there are extensive opportunities for learning to swim and the sport of swimming is supported. With the further development of this funding program to “SWIMplus”, the state government is now also supporting projects that increase the attractiveness of swimming pools for families, children and seniors.
For example, brine pools, slides, children's play pools and other equipment that promotes movement such as (beach) volleyball courts can be supported. This is intended to further enhance the importance of swimming pools as meeting places in society.

Schlüchtern had already been promised funding of around one million euros for the outdoor pool through the SWIM program. So now the financial “supplement” via “SWIMplus”, for which a further almost one million euros has been promised.
Möller passed on the good news during a tour of the construction site. He found out about the current construction progress on site. According to him, numerous workers are busy filling the outdoor areas. Large excavations were necessary around the basins as part of the construction project. These are now filled and compacted.
Meanwhile, the swimming pool is being tiled by skilled workers. This has already happened in the non-swimmer pool. This is filled with water to carry out the required leak test. A few steps further, the sanitary areas take concrete shape. Here, too, tiling is carried out before objects are installed.
According to the mayor, the modernized outdoor pool should be usable at least to a limited extent during the Hessian summer holidays. What I mean is: swimming, yes, leisure activities limited. Because the meadows will not yet be usable, nor will the area for games.
