Bloody New Year's Eve in Schlüchtern: With several stones in his hand, a 36-year-old hit his opponent in the face during an argument. He now had to answer for this before the Gelnhausen district court.
Schlüchtern – The man didn't just hit his opponent in the face with stones in his hand. What's more: He also attacked the victim's 44-year-old wife on the head with the palm of his hand in downtown Schlüchtern. She suffered a bruised skull and her husband was bleeding profusely from his face.
However, both couples did not go to the clinic, but immediately went to the police station on Lotichiusstrasse to file a report, which was difficult due to language barriers.
Bloody New Year's Night in Schlüchtern ends in court
During the taking of evidence before Judge König, it became clear that both couples had been at loggerheads with each other for a long time. The conflicts began as soon as they arrived in Germany, where they were initially assigned to a collective accommodation in Giessen. The conflict later continued in a shared apartment in Langenselbold, and finally after they were moved to Schlüchtern. They often contacted the police and filed a report.
In the current case early on New Year's morning, the defendant was also under the influence of alcohol because he was celebrating his birthday that day. According to his own statement, he consumed various alcoholic drinks during the night, such as beer and whiskey. When the two couples met in the city center early in the morning around 2:30 a.m., the argument escalated into the street.
Even later at the police station, apparently not everything went smoothly. In any case, the police documents state that the 36-year-old had to be handcuffed there at times because he behaved very aggressively.
Seven months probation after grievous bodily harm
The man admitted that he was drunk at the time. However, he had previously only defended himself against aggression from the other man, who allegedly attacked him with headbutts and threatened to shoot him with a pistol. At the same time, he reported physical altercations, some of which took place a long time ago, which was of no relevance to the judge in the current case.
The statement of the alleged victim could have provided valuable help in the proceedings. But as the court learned before the day of the trial, the man was deported from Germany to his home country a few months ago and therefore did not appear at the trial in Gelnhausen.
Judge König ultimately saw the allegations as proven and sentenced the 36-year-old to a prison sentence of seven months, suspended for two years, for grievous bodily harm and simple bodily harm. In addition, the convicted person must pay a fine of 1,500 euros to the “Hanauer Hilfe” organization within six months. (ls)
