From the stressful everyday life of a presenter to the slower pace of life in Mallorca

It used to be almost omnipresent: Von “Let's Dance” (stream old and new episodes on RTL+) above “Explosive – The Magazine”, “Point 12” (all RTL magazines are available to stream on RTL+) and “Germany is looking for the superstar” (watch here on RTL+) up to “star TV” Nazan Eckes led through many RTL formats until the end of 2022. But then the presenter largely withdrew from the television industry.

She swapped her stressful life in Cologne for a much slower everyday life on Mallorca, where she lives on a finca with her children. Her new lifestyle may have also led to her being quite relaxed about getting older.

“You have a lot in your own hands. Better Aging is real”

While she can hardly be seen on TV anymore – an exception was the “Let's Dance” Christmas edition 2025 – She gives an almost daily insight into her Mallorcan attitude to life on her Instagram account. There Eckes, who describes herself as a “mother, former TV presenter, brand ambassador,” does not appear in windowless television studios as she used to, but at the sunny pool, in casual summer dresses, on the beach or during sports training.

Over the years, she has obviously not only found a way to slow down, but has also gained a lot of wisdom. A few weeks before her 50th birthday, she revealed the insights she has gained. Among them: “Getting older is not a scary process. You have a lot in your own hands. Better aging is real.” Or: “The more you appreciate that everything you already have is good enough, the freer you feel.”

Eckes initially took a break from TV in 2021 to help her mother care for her father, who suffers from dementia. But 2022 marked a big change. Her father died, and Eckes reoriented herself professionally and privately. It also became known that her family dream with husband Julian Khol (46) was shattered.

Eckes had already bought a finca in the north of Mallorca in 2020. In 2023 she revealed to “Mallorca Magazine” that she was planning to move permanently. “I’m moving my life completely here little by little, which is why you see me more and more often on the island.” Above all, she really likes nature. “I've been a passionate jogger for over 20 years, love the mountains, the sea and the sun – and I've always wanted to live in such an environment at some point. Now this dream is coming true, which makes me happy.”

Nazan Eckes: As a presenter “I didn’t have the time to breathe”

In May 2025, she told “Gala” in an interview about her life on the island: “In Cologne, my goal was to get from A to B quickly and to work through to-do lists. On Mallorca, my balance has shifted.” A month earlier, she had emphasized in a posting: “I think my work-life balance has never been so good. When I think about my active time as a presenter… sometimes I didn't have the time to breathe and I had zero time for family and friends. That's different now.”

In an earlier RTL interview, Nazan Eckes revealed that she had “very, very, very reduced” her travel and now only agreed to selected events. “Otherwise I hardly travel anymore. I'm at home a lot, I don't do much on the red carpet anymore and I see myself first and foremost as a mother and then as an independent business woman.”
