The actress Ana Obregón (71) fathered a child with the sperm of her dead son and is now raising the little girl.

“Now I’m a mom-grandma.”
The Spanish actress Ana Obregón (71) published a post for Spanish Mother's Day on May 3rd in which she showed two photos of herself with a baby in her arms. But there are around 30 years between the pictures. The first photo shows her with her only son Aless. The baby in the second picture is legally her daughter – but biologically it is actually her granddaughter Ana Sandra.

“Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers who are lucky enough to still have their children on earth,” writes Obregón in the Insta post. “Don’t miss a single day without telling them how much you love them.” The actress knows what it's like to lose a child. Her son Aless developed cancer as an adult.

Before he started his chemotherapy, the doctors advised him to have sperm stored if he wanted to have children later, the actress tells Spanish media. But things were to turn out differently. The treatment doesn't help. In May 2020, Aless died as a result of his cancer.
Surrogate mother gives birth to her dead son's baby
His mother tells the magazine ¡Hola! that her son only had one wish before his death: he really wanted to be a father. She really wanted to make this dream come true for him. “My Aless, I swore to save you from cancer and I failed you. I promised to give birth to your daughter and now I hold her in my arms,” writes Ana Obregón in a post.

Although Aless' father was against it, the actress flew to the USA after her son's death to father a baby there with the help of a surrogate mother and the dead 27-year-old's sperm. Surrogacy is illegal in Spain. After several failed attempts, her granddaughter Ana Sandra was born in 2023.

Ana Obregón wants Ana Sandra to feel close to her dad
Ana Obregón is now raising the baby as if it were her own child. She believes that only parents who have lost their child could understand her “fully,” as she said in a ¡Hola! interview at the time. She put the baby's bed in Aless's room, where she hasn't changed anything since his death. She wanted little Ana to feel so close to her father. When she was old enough, she wanted to explain everything to her.
When she holds the child in her arms, it is an “indescribable feeling,” says the mom-grandma on her Instagram account. “It's like I'm holding you in my arms again. I swear I will take care of her with all my infinite love and you will help me from heaven,” she explains, addressing her late son.
Ana Sandra is already three years old
Her son's little daughter is now three years old. Ana Sandra is the “angel who brightens my darkness every second,” writes the 71-year-old in her Mother’s Day post. “My heart goes out to all the mothers who have their angels in heaven. The ones who swallow their tears with a smile to survive.”
