A former US soldier has been on the run for days!
A large-scale manhunt is underway in Tennessee for a 53-year-old man who is said to have shot his wife. The former US soldier has been on the run for days – and poses enormous challenges for investigators. Steep hills, dense forests and his military training make the search much more difficult.

Shots fired after an argument escalated

According to police, there was a violent argument on Thursday night. The suspect first beat and choked his wife before shooting her as she tried to escape into her car. Despite a serious neck injury, the woman survived and was later released from hospital.

Former soldier with special training

The wanted man was active in the US Army for over two decades, including as a ground trooper and medical sergeant in special forces. He has been deployed to Iraq several times and is considered experienced in survival training. According to police, he was also in excellent physical shape and was very familiar with survival in the wilderness.

Difficult terrain for emergency services

The search is focused on an area with dense forests, steep hills and deep ravines. In addition, there are difficult weather conditions, which make the search teams' deployment even more difficult. Animals such as snakes and dangerous plants also make the area difficult to access.

Numerous agencies are involved in the search, including the Highway Patrol and the Forest Service. The US Marshals could also soon take over. The police speak of a “coordinated combing” in which the area will be systematically searched.

Fear among the population

Concern is growing in the region. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and keep doors locked. However, police emphasize that the suspect is probably trying to stay hidden rather than actively coming into contact with people. The investigators do not rule out that the man received support from outside or has already moved far away from the crime scene. The search could therefore drag on for days or even weeks.
