The city of Schlüchtern will be renovating Kurfürstenstrasse from May 18th. In addition to the road, cables and sidewalks will also be replaced.

Schlüchtern – The city of Schlüchtern has announced extensive construction work on Kurfürstenstrasse. From Monday, May 18th, the street will be fundamentally renovated – the measure is scheduled to last until spring 2028. The measure will take approximately one and a half years. The measure is scheduled to be completed in spring 2028.

The renovation affects the section from the Am Elmacker intersection to the Ludovica-von-Stumm-Straße intersection. Not only are the road surfaces being renewed, but also the underground infrastructure: sewer and water pipes as well as power lines are being replaced. The sidewalks will receive new paving.

Because of the nearby clinic, the construction site represents a particular logistical challenge. “So that the clinic can always be reached, we divide the construction work into many smaller sections,” explained building authority manager Jan Knüttel. The diversion to the clinic will always be signposted so that there are no delays in an emergency.

In addition, the parking areas are to be restructured. Construction technician Darius Lotz from the city of Schlüchtern says: “We will plant trees and make the area more attractive overall. However, the number of parking spaces will remain the same.” The bus stop at the clinic is also to be converted to be barrier-free and will be moved a few meters to achieve this. Replacement stops will be set up during the construction phase.

Access to the cemetery is also a focus of the planners. The aim is to improve the condition of the path technically and visually, says Knüttel. Planting, for example, is conceivable, but this is still in the planning phase.

Mayor Matthias Möller described the project as a large and important project for Schlüchtern. He is pleased that it is now starting and asked everyone affected to understand that the work takes time.

This is not the only renovation in Schlüchtern: The Breslauer Weg will also be renewed by the end of the year.
