Fulda – A suspected sexual assault on a regional train from Fulda to Frankfurt is currently preoccupying the judiciary. The defendant, a now 49-year-old former train attendant for Deutsche Bahn, is said to have lured a then 19-year-old into an office under a pretext in June 2023 and sexually touched her there against her will.
Sexual assault on a regional train: Ex-train attendant charged
According to the public prosecutor's office, the incident occurred shortly after the departure from Fulda at 11:11 p.m., in front of the stop in Flieden. The man is said to have asked the young woman to accompany him so that he could use a charging cable from her in the driver's cab. When he got into the room, he closed the door and kissed the victim and grabbed her bra and buttocks under her top.
The 19-year-old then defended herself, pushed the man away and fled the room. After the incident, the train attendant was suspended by his employer and is currently no longer working for the company. According to the public prosecutor's office, he then applied to another railway company, but it is unclear whether he was employed. The man is accused of sexual assault. The law provides for a prison sentence of six months to five years for this crime.
The defendant did not appear at an oral hearing in the Fulda district court on Monday (April 13). Instead, a penalty order was requested. This is a written judgment in an accelerated procedure without a main hearing. The public prosecutor's office is demanding a prison sentence of ten months, suspended on probation. Originally there were twelve months in question, but this was reduced in connection with another case for driving without a license. The defendant now has 14 days to file an objection against the penalty order. Otherwise it will become legally binding.
There was also a trial at the Fulda regional court about sexual abuse, albeit against children: the perpetrator was convicted for the third time after two appeals.
