Ricarda Lang (32) did it!
In an Instagram post, the Green politician looks back on her first half marathon, which she completed in Hanover. “If someone had told me two years ago that I would run a half marathon, I would have laughed in their face or called them crazy,” she writes in her post on her account with around 266,000 followers. An accompanying photo shows her beaming with a medal around her neck.

For a long time, the topic of sport was primarily associated with fear and self-doubt, explains Lang, who reported last October that she had lost around 40 kilograms. Just a year ago, she was happy on her first attempts at jogging when she lasted three kilometers, she explains in the post.

The fact that she ran her first half marathon in Hanover was “a pretty emotional moment”. She is proud of what she has achieved in the last year and has put a lot of “discipline, willpower, perseverance, carrying on when I don't feel like it, but also the joy of movement and trusting my own body more and more” into the training.

The politician then appeared impressed by the atmosphere at the sporting event. “I was particularly blown away by the sense of community among the runners and the amount of support around them,” writes Lang. “Everyone supports each other, motivates each other and pushes you when you’re struggling.”

Her final conclusion is: “My time is definitely not the fastest. But that wasn't what was important to me. It was about proving to myself that I can do it. And I did that. And I had a lot of fun doing it!” (cko with spot on news)
