When will there FINALLY be relief for citizens because of the high fuel prices?
Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) speaks in an exclusive RTL interview. She gives hope for financial aid for commuters and pokes fun at Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD).

Direct financial aid is possible: Commuters with low incomes could receive more help

Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) believes direct financial aid for commuters is possible. It is possible to set up a direct payment mechanism via an app. “There are also around 14 million citizens' IBANs stored there. This mechanism can be used to directly relieve the burden on commuters who have to drive particularly long distances and to allocate money,” said Reiche in an exclusive interview.

The payment could be designed in such a way that it is socially fair: “That means that commuters with low incomes will receive relatively more over a progressive course than someone who doesn't really need it that much. I think that is also an aspect of justice that we have to take into account,” emphasized the CDU Economics Minister.

Since the start of the US and Israeli attack on Iran, prices for crude oil and subsequently for gasoline and diesel have risen sharply.

Reiche assigned responsibility for such an initial direct payment to the Ministry of Finance. “I assume that the Federal Minister of Finance has his house well under control and so do the relevant authorities.” There is the app and the legal mechanism. She is “optimistic that if such an offer is available, citizens will make use of it. In any case, the technical and legal requirements for this are there.”

The full interview will be broadcast in a “RTL Nachtjournal Spezial” tonight at 12:25 a.m. on RTL.
