“The door-to-door arrangement between the delivery room and the premature and newborn ward is particularly important to many families. This means we can react quickly if necessary,” reports Schulmeyer. Parents and children benefit from the close interdisciplinary collaboration: the close proximity of the delivery room and the children's intensive care unit means that, if necessary, specialized pediatricians can intervene quickly without wasting time. In the Level 2 Perinatal Center, a special department for the care of premature and newborn babies, around 450 premature and sick newborns as well as around 20 particularly small premature babies with a birth weight of less than 1500 grams are successfully cared for every year.
One thing is particularly important for the good reputation of the women's clinic: individual care for pregnant women around the clock, 365 days a day. In addition to the doctors, three midwives per shift are on duty every day, and two look after the expectant mothers at night. In addition to the attention from the midwives, modern equipment with CTG and ultrasound devices is a given.
The fact that an additional senior doctor and an assistant doctor are on site around the clock increases the safety factor for parents. “We attach great importance to ensuring that the parents we care for not only feel safe, but also comfortable,” said the chief physician. “The professionalism and caring of our midwives make a decisive contribution to ensuring that parents have a birth experience that they will remember positively.”
The very well-equipped delivery rooms offer a pleasant atmosphere and a variety of options for choosing the birthing position yourself. In addition to modern delivery beds, birthing stools, Pezzi balls, wall bars and tubs for a relaxing bath are available. When it comes to pain therapy, expectant mothers can also choose from a spectrum ranging from aromatherapy and homeopathy to antispasmodic medications and eliminating pain through so-called epidural anesthesia.
