Because: Chuck Norris is a product of the hypermasculine action cinema of the 1980s. But while some of his contemporaries such as Arnold Schwarzenegger (77) rose to become veritable Hollywood stars, Chuck Norris failed spectacularly in his own development in works such as “Top Dog” and thus remained somewhat ridiculed throughout his filmmaking.
Audiences and critics agreed that he could basically only play himself – in action, martial arts and war films – and “Walker, Texas Ranger”. “Walker” saved Norris's respectable acting career into the 1990s.
The sayings about him have far outlived his film career – and they will also outlive his death. Norris himself could laugh at them – and that's how he will be remembered. (vdü/mit spot on news)
