The new regional store in Schlitz is impressive. There was already a huge rush at the soft opening. The operator is now hoping for long-term support.
Schlitz – Dörte Lorenzen and numerous helpers attended the soft opening of her new regional store on Thursday in the rooms of the former flower shop “Floreo” at Bahnhofstrasse 4 invited.
The aim of the afternoon was to test the processes in the store, discover possible sources of error and gain initial experience in sales. But it quickly became clear that the start was a complete success. Many visitors took the opportunity to take a look at the new store. They browsed through the shelves with great interest, were delighted with the large selection of regional products and asked numerous questions about the origin and production of the goods.
Crowds at the soft opening – new regional store in Schlitz
This resulted in many pleasant conversations and a lively exchange between guests and the helpers on site. Many visitors agreed that such an offer enriches the city of Schlitz. There was therefore great hope that the regional store would be well received by the local people and be able to exist in the long term. People were already shopping hard: at the end of the day, not only was the mood in the store right, but also the amount in the checkout.
Dörte Lorenzen was very satisfied with the successful start. She has long wanted to bring together the many high-quality foods from the region, which come directly from producers, in one place and make them accessible to local people. This gave rise to the idea for a regional store that offered as many products as possible for everyday needs.

Lorenzen attaches particular importance to fresh and regional food. The range should include, among other things, fresh bread as well as seasonal vegetables, fruit and herbs – of course from regional production. There will deliberately be no exotic products such as bananas or mangoes. The offering is complemented by numerous other regional specialties, including honey, fruit spreads, dry goods, drinks and spirits. A central concern of the initiator is practical climate protection, which is very close to her heart. Short transport routes save CO₂, while at the same time value creation remains in the region and local producers are strengthened.
Initially, the regional store will be operated as a “temporary store”, i.e. as a pop-up store. The aim is to test whether such a concept in Schlitz is sustainable in the long term and accepted by the population. It is particularly important for Lorenzen to point out that the project was only made possible through the support of many committed helpers. Since she continues to work, the implementation would not be conceivable without this voluntary commitment.
The official opening of the regional store will take place on Thursday, March 19th, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come along and discover what’s on offer for themselves. Some products were still missing from the soft opening – there was a lot of demand for fresh bread and vegetables in particular. These will also be available starting next week. The regional store's regular opening times will be Thursdays and Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Schlitzer Bote editorial team)
