Flooding should soon no longer be an issue in the Großenbach district of Hünfeld. The city has had the inlet structure on Kreuzstrasse renewed. The construction work has now been completed.
Großenbach – In recent years, major rain events and heavy rain have led to massive problems in Großenbach, the city announced in a press release. Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU) was informed on site about the completion of the work, which includes the construction of a maintenance path to ensure the maintenance of the inlet structure.
The new inlet structure now absorbs the water from two bodies of water from the outside area and feeds it to a canal that leads the water through the town of Großenbach and drains it into the Hasel receiving water. Since the inlet structure was outdated and no longer corresponded to the state of the art, the road and the adjacent properties were flooded several times a year, the note says.
Flood protection in Großenbach: inlet structure renewed
“For this reason, the inlet structure was renewed and brought up to the current state of the art,” explains Tschesnok. Stefan Albinger, clerk at the city administration's civil engineering department, adds: “A sensor was also installed on the inlet structure, which detects when the incoming water rises a warning message via the Fulda district's early heavy rain alarm system sends.”
In the area of the inlet structure, all supply and disposal lines as well as the associated shaft structures were renewed and partially relocated during the course of the work, the municipality writes in its statement. The costs for the construction project amount to around 350,000 euros. (hi)
