“Probably the worst day” – Ed Sheeran remembers his wife’s cancer diagnosis
The Grammy winner, who otherwise largely keeps his private life out of the public eye, made his wife's cancer diagnosis public in his 2023 documentary “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All”. Now the singer also remembered the moment when he found out about the illness. “The day Cherry called me and told me she had cancer was probably the worst day of my life.”

“It was probably the worst week,” Sheeran recalled. “Jamal died that same week, then it went straight to court. And then Shane died too.” Both music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards (1990-2022) and cricket star Shane Warne (1969-2022) were among his close friends. At the same time, there was a legal dispute over the copyright to Sheeran's hit “Shape of You”, which the singer ultimately won.
“It was fucking scary,” Sheeran recalled. Everything has been leading up to this process for eight years. But when he finally sat in the courtroom, the proceedings suddenly became irrelevant to him. Too much else was weighing on him during this time. “I just thought: I don’t really care how this turns out because it’s so insignificant.” (jow/spo)
