Main-Kinzig district – On the second Hesse-wide warning day, the warning to the population in the Main-Kinzig district worked largely well, according to the district press office. However, the positive balance is overshadowed by a technical problem with individual sirens.

Technical breakdown on warning day blocks sirens in the Main-Kinzig district

On Thursday, March 12th, the digital alarm systems Cell Broadcast and warning apps were successfully triggered via the integrated control center in Gelnhausen around 10 a.m., and the all-clear came about half an hour later. It was the second one Hesse-wide warning day after the premiere last year. According to the district, the triggering of the digital radio-controlled sirens, which are already standard in most municipalities, also went smoothly, while the conversion is still ongoing in the other cities and municipalities.

However, sirens, which continue to be controlled via analogue radio and are switched individually for each municipality in the operations control system, were not triggered. The reason was a short-term technical problem in the control center, as the district reports. This caused the sirens to be blocked. The in-house IT fixed the error that morning. Since the population had already been given the all-clear via digital channels at this point, the control center decided not to issue a subsequent alert. The Hanau urban area and individual siren locations in the district were affected.
