RhönEnergie has put four new charging points into operation for electric vehicles on the Wasserkuppe, thereby expanding the charging infrastructure on Hesse's highest mountain.

Rhön – There are four new charging points for electric vehicles on the Wasserkuppe in the heart of the Rhön. With the inauguration of the system, RhönEnergie has tripled the number of charging points on Hesse's highest mountain, as the company announced. The new charging stations are intended to strengthen the Wasserkuppe as a tourist destination and electromobility equally. RhönEnergie wants to create around 80 more charging points in the Fulda district this year.

The new charging stations were put into operation in one of the large parking lots on the L3068 state road. The site was provided by the Society for the Promotion of Gliding on the Wasserkuppe. There were already two RhönEnergie charging stations at the Rhöninfozentrum on the Wasserkuppe. “These charging stations are no longer sufficient given the significantly growing number of electric vehicles in the Rhön,” explains the company.

Martin Heun, spokesman for the management of the RhönEnergie Group, emphasized that the Wasserkuppe is a flagship of the region, where climate protection and tourism are brought together in an exemplary manner. According to him, the four new charging points will create an attractive infrastructure that will invite drivers of electric vehicles to explore the Rhön in an environmentally friendly way. For the regional energy supplier, this is an important building block on the way to the local energy transition.

Fulda District Administrator Bernd Woide (CDU), who is also President of the Society for the Promotion of Gliding on the Wasserkuppe, was also present at the starting signal. He emphasized that the Wasserkuppe is a world-famous center for gliding. In his opinion, the possibility of charging electric vehicles during your stay and while observing flight operations makes the location even more attractive. Woide combined this with an express thank you to RhönEnergie for its commitment to the region.

According to those involved, Gersfeld and the Wasserkuppe already attract hundreds of thousands of guests every year. Against this background, the mayor of Gersfeld, Dr. Steffen Korell (CDU) sees the expansion of the charging infrastructure as an important step. The new charging points will make the destination even more interesting for a growing number of electric vehicle users and the entire Rhön will be positioned for the future both ecologically and economically.
