The long-time freelancer of the “Schlitzer Boten”, Sigi Stock, was awarded the silver badge of honor by the city of Schlitz at the city council meeting.
Schlitz – “You don’t actually have to introduce yourself in Schlitz – people know you,” said Mayor Heiko Siemon, who stuck to “our familiar you” in his laudatory speech. She is known from many club and annual general meetings as an employee of the “Schlitzer Boten”. the DRK clothing store in the B house and – almost forgotten – from the Corona test center during the pandemic.

“The silver badge of honor from the city of Schlitz is an award for people who do more than their duty,” emphasized Siemon. It is for people who get involved, think for themselves, get involved – and do so over many, many years. “And that’s exactly how you are.” Sigi Stock's voluntary work is as diverse as it is impressive.
At the German Red Cross she is active in the clothing store with heart, time and an open ear for people who need support. During the corona pandemic, she worked at the test center “when reliability and commitment were particularly in demand.” Siemon further recalled Sigi Stock's commitment to the Schlitz children's cancer charity. She also strengthens togetherness in the castle town in the neighborhood association “We in Schlitz”. Her eye for the older generation is also demonstrated by her long-term involvement in the city's senior citizens' advisory board. Other voluntary activities include board work at TSG Schlitz and in the support association for the Heraklius murals in Fraurombach.
As a freelance journalist, she has been to almost every annual general meeting, every Christmas party and actually every event in Schlitzerland for decades. “You gave volunteer work a stage. You made visible what otherwise happens in silence. It's not for nothing that you were affectionately called 'Karla Kolumna' – based on the tireless reporter from the animated series 'Benjamin Blümchen',” said Siemon. Sigi Stock was always curious, committed and in the middle of things, rather than just there.

“Your commitment was never loud, never intrusive – but always there: reliable, warm, approachable. You brought people together, told stories, strengthened community. You gave Schlitz a face – and gave many volunteers a voice. For your passion, your time and your humanity, we are awarding you the silver badge of honor from the city of Schlitz today,” said Siemon.
Sigi Stock thanked her in her quiet, modest way: “I don’t want to talk much, I just want to say thank you for the 30 years or so.” She especially thanked her family, who always supported everything.
