What is missing in Hünfeld? What motivates young people? Students debated with Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU) and City Councilor Karin Grosch (CDU) about Hünfeld as part of the “Future Workshop” project.

Hünfeld – As part of the “Future Workshop” project, students from the Wigbertschule, Jahnschule and Konrad-Zuse-Schule debated with Mayor Tschesnok and City Councilor Grosch, the city of Hünfeld announced. Over the past few weeks, they had collected and selected ideas and immediately developed the corresponding project proposals.

At the Wigbertschule, five projects emerged from the areas of leisure, consumption, infrastructure as well as the city and cityscape. The students presented these to the mayor, the city councilor as well as Simon Heil from the Hünfeld Open Youth Club and Bianca Weber from the Youth and Family Center.

“Future Workshop” Hünfeld: What students miss in the city

At the top of the list was the desire for more events and meeting places for young people. The students suggested a pre-summer festival lasting several days in the Hünfelder Bürgerpark in cooperation with clubs and institutions – with elements from culture, art, cuisine and sport. Other ideas included a 24/7 store, a pop-up clothing store for young people, free WiFi in the city and a cinema to make Hünfeld more attractive for young people.

At the Konrad Zuse School, city life was also the focus from the young people's perspective. The main focus there was more cleanliness in the city, better train and bus connections as well as additional leisure opportunities and meeting places for young people. The Jahnschule brought up similar topics: the students rated the feeling of security and leisure activities in Hünfeld as needing improvement, and they also wanted a cinema.

According to the city, Tschesnok was open and enthusiastic about the large number of suggestions. A cinema is not economically viable for Hünfeld, as he explained, but there is an open-air cinema in the city in the summer. He also recommended that young people download the Hünfeld app “Hünfeld, meine Stadt” to stay informed about current events. When it came to free Wi-Fi, he was able to say that new lamps with appropriate router technology were planned as part of the expansion of the city center.

Tschesnok also invited the young people to submit their project proposals Workshop “Inner City Laboratory” to follow up. The workshop will take place on Monday, March 2nd, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at #zuseworks in Hünfelder Bahnhof. As the city reports, the basic idea of the “inner city laboratory” is to make empty shops in the city center usable for events and activities by purchasing equipment or other measures.

At the end of the “future workshop”, the mayor summarized the results in three target agreements: On the one hand, a working group should be formed for the planned pre-summer festival in order to examine its implementation together with the city. In addition, says Tschesnok, it has been agreed that “everyone will download the Hünfeld app and come to the workshop at #zuseworks at the train station on March 2nd.” This means that the young people's ideas should not remain in the discussion, but should be translated into concrete next steps.
