“Mercury in retrograde” or “Mercury retrograde” is the name given to the astro phenomenon when nothing seems to be going right.
Even if you currently have the feeling that something is wrong and that the universe is conspiring against you, you could be right, because we are in the middle of it again: On February 25, the planet Mercury went retrograde again, according to astro website StarWalk. And the “fun” lasts for a while, only on March 20th Mercury changes direction again and becomes, as it is called, direct.
Astrologer Phi Weber (@phi.loves.astrology) already told us in a past RTL interview: “Mercury retrograde is now a bit of a trend in internet astrology bogeyman become. Mercury is also the smallest and fastest planet in the solar system and takes around 88 days to orbit the sun once. It declines and becomes weaker three times a year for three weeks each.
In 2026 we will face Mercury retrograde at the following times:

We feel Mercury retrograde because the planet then rotates faster around the sun than the Earth. This makes it look like it is moving backwards.
And that's exactly what can cause chaos! “Mercury retrograde can bring a lot of potential for chaos in terms of misunderstandings, general communication, appointments, breakdowns, turbulence, (technical) disruptions and careless mistakes,” says Weber. But the astrologer also explains: “The planet shows us that perfection is an illusion and in these times lovingly reminds us to let go and trust the universe instead of planning, structuring and controlling everything.” Actually, Mercury doesn't want to cause any unrest, but simply wants us to stop, sort ourselves out and look inwards.
