
During a police check near Steinau that lasted several hours, the officers noticed that speeds were sometimes significantly increased. Shortly after the checks ended, a motorcyclist had an accident.
Steinau – A large number of administrative offenses were recorded during traffic checks on Saturday (June 6th) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the L3196 between Marjoß and Steinau an der Straße. In addition to speeds that were sometimes far too high, minor violations were also found, as the police report. Shortly after the end of the checks, a motorcyclist fell on a curve and suffered several broken bones.
The checks were carried out as part of the Europe-wide ROADPOL priority action “2-Wheeler”. The winding road between Marjoß and Steinau an der Straße is considered a popular motorcycle route. According to the police, an increase in traffic accidents is being recorded, particularly in the curves. There are also complaints about noise pollution.
Accident after motorcycle checks: biker seriously injured near Steinau
Although the focus of the checks was on motorcycles, the police also removed a driver who was under the influence of THC. Two seatbelt violations were also recorded.
According to the police, out of 207 vehicles measured, around one in eight road users was traveling too fast. While there were several speeding violations of more than 20 kilometers per hour, a motorcyclist from the Vogelsberg district was also recorded traveling at a speed of 129 km/h at a permitted speed of 80 kilometers per hour. He now faces a fine of 320 euros, two points in Flensburg and a one-month driving ban.
Shortly after the end of the measurements, an accident occurred: a 68-year-old man from North Rhine-Westphalia lost control of his motorcycle in a curve and fell. He suffered several broken bones and was taken to hospital in a rescue helicopter.
