As the police say, you should never leave valuables unattended and always keep handbags or shoulder bags locked on the front of your body or tucked under your arm. Pickpockets can often be recognized by a typically searching look: They avoid direct eye contact with the victim and instead focus their attention on possible prey. The police also recommend keeping your wallet, cell phone and other valuables close to your body, ideally in closed inner pockets of your clothing.
The East Hesse Police Headquarters will receive information about the incident on telephone number (0661) 1050, any other police station or the online watchdog at www.polizei.hessen.de.
