Here we go again: The season of the American Football Regional League Middle is entering the next round – and the first big task awaits the Fulda Saints players on their home field today (3 p.m.).
Fulda-Johannesberg – Because: The baroque townspeople who last season finished in a historically strong third placeawait the team from Marburg for the opening game. The very team they have never beaten in the past. The very team that needs to be defeated in order to realize the big dream of promotion to the GFL II.
Fulda's American footballers are aiming for promotion to GFL II
Head coach Jonas Heck is looking forward to the encounter in a positive mood: “We started preparing in October – relaxed on the field and intensive in the coaching staff. So we are well prepared. Injured regular players have now started training again and with the support of the Imports we are stronger than ever before.”
The Saints are starting the season with corresponding ambition. The medium-term goal is clear: promotion to the GFL II. But Marburg and Bad Homburg have a say in that. “These are very strong teams, no question about it,” Heck knows, but warns: “Both experienced a change in preparation, new coaches, old players gone. Something like that can be decisive.”
They should definitely not be underestimated, but Heck says: “Our team definitely has the potential to beat these teams this year.” And so the Saints go into the first home game, the first cracker of the season, with a good feeling. Kick-off is on Saturday (May 2nd) at 3 p.m. in Johannesberg.
