In Zanzibar, reality star Leyla Heiter (29) has to be treated in a clinic after a bite. The jungle camp second from 2024 documented the “dramatic” rescue operation with photos.

And that's how it all started: Leyla's husband Mike Heiter (33) made a joke on the beach in Zanzibar and scared his wife by saying: “There's a snake!” But there was no sign of the animal in the Instagram story. Then a monkey appeared and bit.
Shortly afterwards, Leyla said on Instagram on a beach lounger: “I was just bitten by a monkey on the beach. It was running around here and just bit my finger.” The print is clearly visible and the finger is burning. Her husband Mike says in the background: “Luckily it's not bleeding.” Then he adds: “This is a rabies risk area.”

According to the Tropical Institute, Tanzania, including Zanzibar, is actually considered a medium to high rabies risk region. Leyla went to the doctor immediately. There is also excitement in practice, with the message: Because of possible infections, the bite is not a simple routine case.
The fear: Leyla has a previous health history. She recently had arm and head surgery and has chronic thyroid disease. This doesn't necessarily make vaccination complicated, but it does affect the immune system. The doctors therefore had to examine her more closely.
Also seen in her story: The vaccination takes place according to a fixed schedule, she has to go to the doctor several times while on vacation and get injections. Leyla depresses: “The vacation could probably be over because I can get sick now. This is just really intense and s*** right now.”

Because of her previous history, Leyla fears vaccination side effects such as fever and nausea. But just a few hours later she is sitting with her family over a hearty meal and raving about how delicious everything is. So there is hope that the dream vacation on Zanzibar can continue.
