Hanau – A regional train collided with a car at a level crossing in Klein-Auheim on Wednesday evening (April 15) around 9 p.m. According to the police, the 19-year-old driver of the VW Golf ignored the red light and drove around the already closed half-barrier in order to pass the Obergasse/Dieselstraße railway crossing.

At that moment, a VIAS-Bahn regional train, which had recently departed from the nearby “Klein-Auheim” stop, was traveling along the route, causing a collision, the statement continues. The impact pushed the car against the barrier system. According to the police, the 19-year-old and his two passengers were uninjured and apparently escaped in shock. The train driver and the 15 passengers on the regional train were not injured in the accident.
Officials provisionally estimate the damage to the car, the train and the railway system to be more than 10,000 euros. The railway line remained closed until around midnight while the accident was being investigated and the car was being towed away. Witnesses to the accident are asked to report to the Hanau police station.
