
The Sinntal volunteer fire department had to move out on Sunday morning. An oil furnace in Altengronau produced a lot of soot. Parts of the affected apartment are not habitable.
Sinntal – The incident report from Sunday morning (April 12th) initially said it was an “apartment fire”, but it turned out to be an oil stove fire in Altengronau's Frankfurter Straße. District fire chief Carsten Ullrich (Weiperz) explained this at the request of our newspaper.

Apparently an oil stove burned uncontrollably and produced a lot of soot, which is why the resident called the fire department. However, the affected apartment and the room with the oil stove were not on fire. However, due to the soot, parts of it are currently no longer habitable.
When the emergency services arrived, the oil furnace was already under control again. As a precautionary measure, the approximately 16 firefighters from Altengronau then went through the house with a carbon monoxide measuring device to detect residues of the odorless but dangerous gas and to look for possible embers using a thermal imaging camera.
When asked on Sunday afternoon, the police leader from the Southeast Hesse headquarters was initially unable to name the amount of damage. The incident report states that the cause of the fire was a suspected technical defect.
