Have you ever heard of Pitta, Vata or Kapha?

Singing bowls instead of ringtones!
Many celebrities rave about Ayurveda on Insta and Co. But what is actually behind it? Thousands of years of health knowledge or staged wellness marketing? We took a closer look at an Ayurveda resort.

But let’s first come back to the three terms. What are Vata, Pitta and Kapha? All three are Ayurvedic terms and represent the basic functions of the body and mind. Vata stands for movement, Pitta has nothing to do with the famous bread, but means metabolism and Kapha means structure.

There is a piece of India hidden in the middle of Austria: The Sonnhof in Tyrol is considered an alpine Ayurveda refuge. Exactly such places seem to be attracting more and more celebrities. Names like Helene Fischer or Robert Lewandowski come up again and again – and contribute to the fact that an ancient healing art is increasingly becoming a lifestyle trend.

The numbers also speak for themselves: Ayurveda has developed into a billion-dollar market, with annual growth rates of up to 20 percent. Values that even large pharmaceutical companies can only dream of. But why is this traditional healing medicine so popular right now?

When Elisabeth, the current operator, and her family transformed the Tyrolean inn into an Ayurveda house around the turn of the millennium, the future initially looked anything but promising. “In the village we were the weirdos and the esoterics.” Today the Sonnhof is one of a growing number of Ayurveda houses in Europe – and is an example of a trend that has long since become mainstream in society. But what do you actually get there – and how much does a stay like this cost? You can find out in the video.
