Woco turnaround in Steinau: The production facility remains as an industrial location. There is also good news when it comes to training.
Steinau/Bad Soden-Salmünster – The Woco Group reported in March last year about the planned closure of production facilities in Bad Soden-Salmünster and Steinau. That was the background difficult market environment in the automotive industry, which is also affecting Edag in Fulda, among others. But now there are positive developments at the Woco location in Steinau, as the company announced when asked.
Woco remains in Steinau: location and training occupation secured
Since the press release in March 2025, the Woco Group, based in Bad Soden-Salmünster, has continuously examined various scenarios for the future direction of the location and “adapted it to the dynamically changing framework conditions,” according to the Woco management team.
After an “intensive evaluation of the possible options”, there are now positive developments, so that the Woco Group has decided to continue the Steinau production site as a location for the industrial segment in the long term. This would allow the company's industrial activities to be more closely bundled and the location in the Brothers Grimm City to be developed into a pure “industrial location”. In order to create “a stable and economically viable perspective” for the Woco location in the long term, “various options will continue to be examined”.

As publicly communicated a year ago, the production closure in Bad Soden-Salmünster will be implemented as planned by the end of 2027. This project is now in a deeper planning phase. When asked, there are currently “no new statuses” available. No further cuts are planned beyond the measures already explained by Woco.

It mainly supplies the automotive industry. There are further areas of application in railway technology, in pipelines and in measurement and control technology. There is also good news in the area of training. The Woco Group recently announced that most commercial occupations would no longer be offered due to production closures. Through the in-house training workshop and the existing technical areas in Bad Soden-Salmünster – such as testing and engineering – the learning content for the mechatronics technician profession will continue to be covered, so that this profession will be offered again when training starts in 2026.
