
An alcoholic driver crashed a van into a tree near Michelsrombach and then fled into the forest.
Fulda/Hünfeld – A 31-year-old driver drove a Mercedes Sprinter off the road on the L3378 in the Michelsrombach Forest and crashed into a tree. On Wednesday, March 11th, around 4:40 p.m., he and a 53-year-old passenger, both from Hünfeld, were driving from Michelsrombach towards Fulda when, according to police reports, the accident occurred. A witness observed the collision and alerted the police.
Accident after drunk driving – police arrest driver in forest
Before the officers arrived, the driver, who was apparently slightly injured, fled into the forest, according to the East Hesse police headquarters. As part of a search that was immediately launched, police officers found the 31-year-old in a forest and temporarily arrested him. According to the information, he was apparently under the influence of alcohol, which is why a blood sample was ordered and his driver's license was confiscated.
The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries. The damage is estimated at around 50,000 euros. Criminal proceedings are now underway against the 31-year-old for drunken driving, unauthorized removal from the scene of an accident and negligent bodily harm.
There was also an accident on Thursday during rush hour traffic in Fulda. A tractor-trailer overturned at the Kino intersection, seriously injuring a pedestrian.
