The A7 motorway between Kirchheim and Hattenbach will be renovated in 2026. Two months of construction could have a significant impact on traffic. Preparatory work starts on March 9th.
Niederaula – The road surface of the A7 motorway between the Kirchheimer triangle and the Hattenbacher triangle in the direction of Würzburg/Frankfurt is being renewed by the Federal Autobahn GmbH, Fulda branch. The federal government is investing around 2.5 million euros for this section in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district.
Over an area of around 55,000 square meters or a length of around two kilometers, the roadway will be milled down to a depth of 15 centimeters and rebuilt, as the federal Autobahn GmbH announced. This work is necessary because the asphalt has cracks and ruts. At the Hattenbacher triangle, the average daily traffic load in both directions is around 88,500 vehicles, including around 22,200 trucks.

From Monday (March 9th) to probably Friday (March 20th) preparatory work will take place to strengthen the roadway for later construction site traffic management. On the A5 and A7 in the direction of Kassel, there are lane closures during the day and especially at night. At least two lanes remain accessible during the day,
At night, however, there could be short-term single-lane traffic in the direction of Kassel. The main work on renewing the road surface in the direction of Würzburg/Frankfurt will begin on Saturday (March 21st) and should be completed by Saturday (May 9th). Work such as applying the white markings is weather dependent and could extend the construction time if conditions are unfavorable.
During the main work, according to Autobahn GmbH, at least two lanes will always be available in all directions in the area of the Hattenbach triangle. These lanes are sometimes narrowed or swiveled and are directed onto the oncoming lane.
Depending on the progress of construction, the construction site and traffic routing will change, the Fulda branch of Autobahn GmbH concludes. “Road participants approaching the Hattenbacher triangle with the destination A5 Frankfurt or A7 Würzburg must follow the current construction site signage.”
